On April 23, 2025, Roger Weidel hosted an informative and engaging webinar titled Fourth Shift Future: With the Release of 8.00E, What's New and In It for YOU! The session shed light on ERP system updates and how businesses can benefit from keeping their Fourth Shift ERP system up-to-date.

Is your ERP system silently sabotaging your growth?

Are you prepared for upcoming changes like Windows Server 2025 compatibility?

What would happen to your business if your ERP stopped supporting the latest technology?

What's New in Fourth Shift 8.00E?

The new 8.00E release introduces several important updates to enhance your Fourth Shift ERP experience:

  • Platform Support: Ensure that your system is fully compatible with upcoming technologies and continues to support essential integrations.

  • Returns from Closed Shipments: A new feature streamlining the returns process by allowing returns from closed shipments, saving you time and reducing manual effort.

  • PO Approval Levels: Added flexibility to manage purchase orders more efficiently with different approval levels, improving control and oversight.

  • And more!: Roger shared additional features to improve performance and reduce inefficiencies across your operations.

Why Upgrade Now?

If you’re on an older version of Fourth Shift ERP, now is the time to upgrade. Not only will you ensure that your system is secure and compatible with Windows Server 2025, but the 8.00E release will also position your business for future scalability.

Roger emphasized that upgrading is about more than just compliance – it’s an opportunity to take your business to the next level, streamline operations, and stay ahead of the competition.

Customer Questions from the Webinar:

During the webinar, attendees had insightful questions that sparked further discussion. Here’s a summary of the customer questions addressed during the session:

Will Fourth Shift expand operating system compatibility, such as porting to Linux?

Fourth Shift will continue to run on Microsoft SQL and Windows Server platforms. This aligns with 85–95% of global ERP systems. While a native Linux version isn't planned, ICG can deliver web-based access through Chrome browsers using VDI and cloud technologies. Infor’s roadmap shows 8.00F aiming to support SQL Server 2025.

Are approval chains enforced, and can the system send email notifications?

Not by default in Fourth Shift. However, by using MFGStream, we can enable detection of approvals and send automated notifications.

Does the PO Approval Module allow you to view and print approval histories?

Yes. The approval screen includes reports showing who approved what and when. MFGVision makes it even easier to visualize this data with custom dashboards.

Do I need to upgrade through every version to reach 8.00E, or can I jump multiple versions?

It depends on your current version. Some upgrade "hops" may be required, but we handle this as part of a seamless upgrade process.

Pro Tip: Migrate to the Cloud

Roger also offered a valuable pro tip for businesses considering an upgrade: Upgrading to 8.00E is a perfect time to migrate your ERP to the cloud. Cloud migration can provide added flexibility, better scalability, and a more robust disaster recovery solution. Interested in learning about Cloud solutions?
